Sacred Journeys Gallery Opening

  • First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin 4700 Grover Avenue Austin, TX, 78756 United States (map)

Gender Unbound is seeking artwork by transgender and intersex artists for an upcoming gallery show called SACRED JOURNEYS: Religious and Spiritual Lives of Trans and Intersex People.

ARTIST SUBMISSIONS

Apply today with your 2D or 3D visual art about your religious lives, spiritual practices, and faith experiences!

This is a broad theme, and we encourage artists to interpret it however it speaks to them. What does your religious life look like these days? What spiritual practices have you learned in trans and intersex communities? What is it like to be a trans and/or intersex person in your current religious community? What sacred symbols from your tradition speak to you as a trans and/or intersex person?

Note: We will be prioritizing works that speak to present spiritual experiences over works that focus solely on past religious traumas.

All forms of visual artwork will be considered, but the piece must be able to be hung on a gallery wall or displayed within a small case or an uncovered pedestal or table. You may submit an old or a new piece--whichever you like.

We are taking applications on a rolling basis. No applications will be considered after April 21st, 2025.

EXHIBITION OPENING

The gallery exhibition opening is free and open to the public and will take place at the  Sharon and Brian Moore Alternative Space Gallery, which is located at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin (4700 Grover Avenue, Austin TX 78756) on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 6 - 8 PM.

Following the opening, the gallery will be shown from May 10th to June 30th, 2025.
