A Living Archive: Honoring Our Stories, Ourselves

Hosted by Kanoa Arteaga

Creating a tangible account of our lives is an ancient practice. For as long as humans have been able to write, they’ve made it a point to record the details of their existence, who they were, what they cared about and the choices they made. This practice is especially important for trans and intersex people, whose stories have been omitted, drowned out or intentionally erased from the archives. Join us for an afternoon of memoir writing and the healing we might find in retelling our stories for ourselves.

You don’t have to identify as a writer for this workshop, any and all writing levels are welcome.

This event is free and open to any trans and/or intersex people! If you are a cisgender and non-intersex ally, you can support the space by donating to Gender Unbound.

Trans and Intersex Ceramics Night

Wednesday, July 24th, 2024, 6 PM at Round Rock Community Clay

900 Round Rock Ave Suite 310, Round Rock, TX 78681

Ready to get your hands dirty?

Gender Unbound is hosting a one-night ceramics workshop for our trans and intersex community to play with clay! Bella Legosi, a local trans ceramics instructor, will guide us in crafting and decorating our own unique hand-built mugs. All clay, materials, and supplies will be provided, and kiln firing and glazes are all included with the ticket.

Bella will be delving into the exciting technique of slab building in this all trans and intersex community class. She’ll guide us through all the steps of crafting a hand-built mug, including attaching a handle and implementing strategies to refine and decorate the surface of your mug. Resulting creations will be functional, food safe, and unique to you.

No ceramics experience is required. With our open-ended format, complete beginners will be shown all the basics, while more intermediate and advanced artisans will have room to stretch and add your own flair.

Firing will be completed by Round Rock Community Clay and the finished pieces will be ready to pick up in around 4 weeks.

Sliding Scale Tickets

We are offering this workshop with sliding-scale ticket pricing. An at-cost ticket is $40; our sliding scale ranges from $25 to $60. We ask that you consider your unique and complex financial situation when selecting a ticket price. Sliding scale is not about getting a good deal.

“When I pay more on a sliding scale, I know that I am helping others to access this event. When I pay in the middle, I know I am helping support the event organizers. And when I pay at the bottom, I know I am letting my community hold me and support me. All of these are wonderful and acceptable ways of accessing services.”

Am I trans or intersex enough to attend?

Reminder: this will be a trans and intersex space. We consider the intersex umbrella to include anyone born with any of a range of body variations that do not fall into typical binary gender expectations. We consider the transgender umbrella to include anyone who does not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth, including nonbinary, agender, gender fluid, third gender, and two spirit people.

If you are an ally, friend, or family member to trans and intersex people, you can donate without purchasing a ticket or become a monthly sustainer.

Trans & Intersex Creative Crop Top Party!

Bring your t-shirts, jeans, hoodies, whatever you wanna crop, and let’s manifest our queer, gender wavy wardrobe of our dreams. Gender Unbound is rounding out our Summer Skill Share Series with this creative clothes cropping workshop with Sam Carey.

We’ll provide multiple shirts to crop, practice on, or keep, and you’re also encouraged to bring whatever clothes you’d like some guidance in cropping. Scissors will also be provided by ACR, but if you have a nice pair of fabric scissors you like to use, go ahead and bring those for yourself. We also recommend wearing layers or an outfit that would make trying on your crops feel easy and comfortable for you.

Come for the cropping, stay for the good vibes and trans community.

Masks are required for this indoor event, and HEPA air filters will be in use throughout the classroom space.

Trans and intersex only!

Our workshop series is aiming to cultivate trans and intersex creative community!

This low cost event is open to any trans and/or intersex people! If you are a cisgender and non-intersex ally, you can support the space by donating to Gender Unbound.
